November 7-9, 2021

So this year we decided to squeeze in another trip before the water turned hard. Jon and I and our pal Isla went for a couple of days in November again. Maybe we have a new tradition starting? The weather was amazing, it was a little chilly as to be expected but the wind was virtually non-existent almost the entire time we were there. The skies were deep blue and the water like glass. It was tough to pick the photo for the banner because I got so many awesome shots.

Once we got her in, we had to beach her to board and launch since there was no dock.

On the way in along the river, it was tough to distinguish the shoreline, the reflections were awesome.

We can normally get our pick of sites this late in the year, and when possible we grab the lean-to site near Hungry Bay.

Once camp was set up, we hit the water to see what might bite and Hungry Bay is as good a place as any to start. After a few unsuccessful drifts over the weeds in the bay itself, and before heading out onto the main lake, we tried 1 drift  just off of the point close to camp and Jon connected on what might be the best largemouth we've caught up here. A close second to Roger's back in 2011 if not.

A little later we headed toward the creek mouth and as seen in this next photo the sun is already getting low at 3:45 PM

Another nice bass for the captain, this time a bronze back

Here's a few twilight shots, the crescent moon with Jupiter close by was an awesome sight. You can sort of see it in the first shot and I was also able to zoom slightly and capture it with my phone in the second shot but it doesn't do it justice believe me. The sunset from this camp is always nice as well.

Next day, we woke up to some morning low clouds and fog but it soon became crystal clear again.

Isla is waiting patiently for breakfast  with a good vantage point to her food bowl.

How about a little friendly game of darts before breakfast?

The lake was eerily quiet, just the way we like it.

Another very familiar sight, that also never gets old

Isla getting some exercise while we relax. We didn't see hide nor hair of the refugee mouse.

Another awesome twilight over at the creek, looks like Jupiter moved a little

Again, my phone doesn't do it justice but check out this short video of the ride back in the twilight.

Nothing better than a hardy bowl of homemade chicken soup to end the day in the north country.

Except maybe a nice campfire, some good music and a cold beer.

As of this update, it looks like we are still not allowed back to Canada, so we'll be back to Saranac in the spring, God willing.
