Sept 14-18, 2023 (25 Years and counting)

DAY 1

Another fall has arrived in the north country and once again we are back for our annual fishing adventure on Middle Saranac Lake (and Lower as you will see).

With the news that the Upper Locks rehab/rebuild work was going to start before we would be leaving, we needed to camp on Lower so as not to get stranded on Middle. We already knew of a good out of the way spot since we had to do this once before on a spring trip.

Home away from home for a few days! She's not going to unload herself fellas.

Once camp was setup, we decided to take advantage of the time we had to access Middle for a few days so we headed up the river and through the locks to do some fishing for Pike, Bass, Perch, and Peace. I can safely say that we found all of the above once again.

Isla is on point, I think she knows where we are going.

This looks familiar Hey, isn't that Ampersand?

Ladies and Gentlemen, all the way from sunny South Carolina, it's The Perch King!

First Mate is on the board with a feisty Largemouth

Knowing we had to get back to camp through the locks via the river, Day 1 came to an end rather quickly.

A very peaceful journey

As usual, the sky and water at sunset here is just spectacular

DAY 2

It looks like the sun is shining and the crew is looking very chipper

So we headed back to Middle to see if the fish would bite, we had the lake to ourselves for the most part which is always a bonus. Here's a familiar scene as well along the river.

One of these days WE WILL see a moose here, or a Beaver.

The Upper Locks

The fishing was pretty good on this trip as you will see.

We almost always make a stop on a beach somewhere to cool our feet in the cold lake and also to let Isla run a little.

  Never gets old

We would eventually have to head back toward camp again and since we prefer not to navigate the river and the locks in the dark, we headed back before the sunset this day.

The lock steward cabin, abandoned for the year.

The cliffs of insanity We don't often get a chance to see it with the sunset shining on it.

Another rare sight on Lower Saranac as the sun begins to set, beautiful!

Just about back to camp. The lake is so peaceful and calm.

Made it with plenty of time before dark

DAY3

The next day we must have hung around camp for a good while but eventually ventured out onto the lake by afternoon. These are the first pictures I have timestamped 4:24 and 4:26 pm respectively. Where have we been all day?

This will be one of the final times we are on this side of the "old" locks

Good times!

DAY 4

Another beautiful morning in the north country, let's go fishing!

I know a pup who is ready to go

So the Upper Locks maintenenace had not started yet even though they were technically "closed". It's weird but these next photos look like Middle Saranac Lake to me

Monster Smallmouth Bass :)

The last full day was winding down and it was time to head back to camp

Goodbye for now Middle Saranac Lake

Watch in front, not behind, sheesh ! Isla the Navigator

Back at camp, time for some good food, music and cold beverages and of course a nice fire.

Like I said "Good Times"

DAY 5

Not sure if it was raining, but I have no pictures from the last morning

Well, with the planned closure of the Upper Locks for the remainder of the year and all next summer, we will be making some other plans for the spring. Stay tuned.

As I always say, see ya next year God willing.
