Saranac Lake Fishing Adventure (part 2)
Once again we stayed at our usual spot on Weller Pond and as usual the first day is about getting camp setup and letting the worries of the world slip away. Surprisingly I don't have any pics of camp but I am sure it was very similar to any other year with a nice tarp shelter in place to keep things dry. We've got the design down to a science. It looks as though we needed to dry our dogs on the first day. We eventually did venture out onto the lake under a very grey canopy, at least it's not raining ....yet. No one on the lake either, another bonus! No fish were caught that day, not uncommon for day one.
Hey guys, are we going fishing or what? (timestamp: 8:04 am) Sure thing, let's go fishing, looks like the sun is even trying to break through. (timestamp: 10:34 am) I guess we were in no hurry. Roger is on the board with a nice Saranac Lake representative pike. Looks like the bass started to bite as the skies opened up. Isla was very interested in everything we put in the net. Everybody is on the board too! All that hard work makes a man hungry (and thirsty). Would be nice to dry off a bit as well, I believe camp is calling us. Going through the channel, a familiar sight, still as awesome and wild as the first time. Isla is on point, as we come into Weller Pond, I think she knows where we are going. It would appear we got back just in time before another deluge was upon us. Check out the short slo-mo video. here After the rain, another nice Adirondack sunset DAY3 I'm guessing it rained in the morning, no pictures. I'm sure we slept in by Saranac standards too. It's hard to get out of the tent when the rain is making that mesmerizing sound. We would eventually head out onto the lake by 11am or so prepared with rain gear. Looks like the fish are cooperating anyway. Isla really wants a piece of that pike. Roger getting in on the action with a chunky Bass, looks like he got 'em on the Z-Man Captain with a little bass as the sun starts gracing us with it's presence Looks like Isla and I are on point on the way back to camp.
DAY 4 Does this dog have an alarm clock or something? (timestamp 8:04 am ... again) With the threat of rain again and not very warm, we layer up and head out. Fish were very cooperative. Isla was super excited about the fish on this trip. Ok, fine, I'll try to catch one, just let me work here. I recall the smallmouth were really slamming our stuff this day. I think gold inline spinners were the ticket. A couple more nice bronze backs on the Blue Fox Classic in gold. I recall this drift produced one after another for me. Action Photos courtesy of the Captain. For a second there I thought Isla was going to jump in after it. Enough is enough for you says the Captain, we're outta here! The fish were really biting on this particular afternoon, all of our spots produced. Below are a few highlights, but these are not all of them. More action photos courtesy of the Captain Back in the creek, everybody is getting in on the action. Hey Jon, I think you got something on your finger there. On the drift out, the Captain lands a beauty near the drop off. DAY 5 Time for the final drift to enjoy the surrounding beauty and tranquility one last time for this year And the deliberately slow cruise down the river back to civilization. As I always say, see ya next year God willing.
