This trip originally started out as an
overnight on the Tongue Mountain range, but work schedules
caused us to switch to a day trip. Rick is a newcomer to our
group and hadn't done any high peaks yet so the Cascade,
Porter, Blueberry range seemed like a nice hike. Rick has
logged some miles in on the AT in Georgia but after this
hike I believe he is hooked on the Adirondacks. We used 2
vehicles so we could do a point to point hike. We started at
the Cascade trailhead and finished at Marcy Field. I had
done Cascade in October of 2002 but I'm glad I did it again
because the summit was in a cloud then but as you will see,
we had a good day for views this time. I also neglected to
bag Porter in October so this trip added a peak to my list.
Our hike was just shy of 8 miles and there are views of
Algonquin, Colden, the entire Great Range, Dix and Giant all
along the way. We encountered some patches of snow and ice
up high and the descent from Blueberry was quite steep and
slippery due to the running water. |
